Circa Waves - Fossils

Circa Waves simply can't put a foot wrong at the minute. Off the back of a triumphant UK tour, they premiered new single Fossils and at just shy of 3 minutes, it's an absolute firecracker of indie brilliance.

The track follows a similar formula to their previous work yet it still manages to sound refreshing. It boasts prominent, bouncy guitars and a chorus that's so catchy you'll find yourself singing along to it before the track has even finished, which is a testament to their song writing abilities. With their hotly anticipated debut album on the horizon, it seems almost cliched to compare Circa Waves to The Strokes yet the similarities are there for anybody to see. Besides, it can't exactly be a bad thing to be compared to the band that practically saved guitar music, can it? 

Huskies - Huskies EP

Nottingham quartet Huskies have always had a penchant for infectious indie-pop that oozes summertime goodness and their debut EP is no different.

Every track on this EP is filled to the brim with hooks, to the point where each song will be stuck in your head for days. Opener Down sets the tone with it's combination of jangly, melodic guitars and frontman Antonio Panzera's smooth vocals which intertwine to create a gorgeous tune reminiscent of Birmingham slackers Jaws. The mellow vibes continue into Surrender which fizzles along before erupting into a glorious breakdown its impossible not to groove to. Then a re-recorded version of early single Shh drifts in; beefed up to something epic yet still as catchy, it remains their best track to date. Finally, closer Castaway floats along on a gentle breeze of echoed out guitars and leaves on shimmering synths which provides a perfect, hazy end to proceedings.

Despite not possessing much depth lyrically, Huskies certainly make up for in their melodies on a brilliant debut EP. It's packed full of sweet summer anthems that manages to bring a glimmer of sunshine to even the gloomiest of winter nights.

Track Of The Week: The Fat White Family - Is It Raining in Your Mouth?

With songs ranging from peadophilic fantasies (Cream of the Young) to decimating a family friendly resort (Bomb Disneyland) and frontman Lias Saoudi's tendency for outrageous on-stage antics (he once wiped his own shit on his forehead before diving into the crowd) it's easy to see why South London's The Fat White Family might not appeal to everyone. 

But if you can get past the slightly questionable subject matter (in this case, getting a blowjob in a car), they produce some uniquely chaotic and unpredictable music. A sleazy, chugging guitar line throughout keeps the sound grounded up until the 'five sweaty fingers on my dashboard' refrain. This is where the songs descends into total chaos with Lias' frantic, blood curdling wails contrasting completely against the cool 'ba ba ba' backing vocals and wedding-esque bell chimes. Despite being quite possibly the most debauched, deranged and down right disgusting band in music at this present moment, The Fat White Family don't half make a good racket.
